Text message (SMS) program terms
These terms apply to the Town of Creston text message program, which sends messages from our Town Hall number, (509) 636-3145. A plain summary of the program is on our Text Message Alerts page.
- Program description. The Town sends replies to messages you send Town Hall, water and sewer utility notices such as bill reminders and shutoff warnings, public safety and service alerts such as boil-water advisories and outages, and Town business notices such as council meeting reminders. We do not send advertising, marketing, or political messages, and we do not text on behalf of any other organization.
- How you sign up. You give consent in one of three ways, and the Town sends no message until one is complete. You enter your mobile number and check the consent box on the sign-up form at crestonwa.gov/text-alerts; or you enroll in text messages from the Town of Creston by texting JOIN to (509) 636-3145 from your own mobile phone, in which case message and data rates may apply, message frequency varies, you may reply HELP for help or STOP to cancel, and that inbound message is the record of your consent; or you sign and date the written Text Message Consent Form, checking the consent box yourself, and return it to Town Hall, in person or as part of your water and sewer service application. The consent box is never pre-checked. Consent is never a condition of receiving water, sewer, or any other Town service.
- How you stop. Reply STOP to any message from us to end all messages to that number, or call Town Hall at (509) 636-3145. Text JOIN again to start back up.
- How you get help. Reply HELP to any message, call (509) 636-3145, or visit Town Hall at SE 100 Creston Avenue.
- Frequency and cost. Message frequency varies, and the count can rise during an emergency. Message and data rates may apply. Check with your mobile carrier about your plan.
- Delivery. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Text messages are a convenience and are not a substitute for official notice by mail. Do not rely on text messages in an emergency. Always call 911 for an emergency.
- Eligibility. You must be the account holder or an authorized user of the mobile number you sign up, and you must be at least 18 years old. Tell us if your number changes so we do not text its new owner.
- Privacy. We do not sell, rent, or share mobile numbers or text message consent with third parties or affiliates for marketing purposes. See our Privacy Policy.
